NDC Caucus In Parliament Distances Itself From Zoomlion Contract Interference Claims

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Caucus has officially disassociated itself from claims that it is interfering in the sanitation contract between the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

In a strong-worded statement released by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, the Caucus emphasized that it has not authorized the Sanitation Committee of Parliament to meddle in the contractual decisions of the YEA regarding Zoomlion’s sanitation module.

According to Hon. Ayariga, the Chairman of the Sanitation Committee has confirmed that neither he nor any member of the Committee has made any attempt to influence or intervene in the operations or decisions concerning the said contract. He stressed that any comments made by individuals that appear to defend the contract should be disregarded, as they do not reflect the official position of the Committee or Parliament.

The Majority Leader further warned that no Metropolitan, Municipal, or District Assembly (MMDA) should feel compelled or coerced into signing sanitation contracts with any particular company. He reminded the public that Parliament, in its last session, implemented a directive from former President John Dramani Mahama for 80% of the District Assemblies Common Fund to be released directly to the Assemblies. This, he noted, grants the Assemblies full autonomy to determine their developmental priorities, including sanitation management.

The NDC Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, good governance, and the decentralization of power in line with national policy.

Signed,
Mahama Ayariga, MP
Majority Leader & Leader of Government Business
