Ex-Signals Bureau Boss and wife sue Attorney General for defamation

Former head of the Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahen, and his wife have filed a defamation lawsuit against Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, following comments made during a March 24, 2025, press conference.

During the press briefing, Dr. Ayine publicly accused the couple of various criminal acts. The pair allege that these accusations were false, damaging, and made without justification.

In a writ filed on Thursday, April 24, the couple is seeking exemplary and punitive damages, describing Dr. Ayine’s statements as “highly offensive, defamatory.”

They argue that the remarks, made in a widely broadcast public forum, have seriously harmed their reputations both personally and professionally.

In their statement of claim, the plaintiffs are asking the court for:

“a. Exemplary and punitive damages against the Defendant for publishing and/or broadcasting highly offensive, defamatory material of and concerning the Plaintiffs in his press conference dated the 24th day of March 2025.
b. An order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from further publishing and/or broadcasting or causing to be published and/or broadcast the said or similar words defamatory of the Plaintiff.
c. Costs, including lawyer’s professional fees.”

They maintain that the Attorney General’s comments have caused irreparable harm to their standing in both public and professional spheres.

Per court procedures, Dr. Ayine has eight days from the date of service to respond to the suit. Failure to do so may result in a default judgment being entered against him.
