Tensions escalated in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region on Thursday, April 24, 2025, following a dramatic rejection of the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE).
Samuel Azure, the newly elected Presiding Member and Assemblyman for the Kaadi Electoral Area, was reportedly assaulted shortly after the vote of no confidence was passed against the nominee.
Eyewitnesses say the alleged attack occurred moments after the assembly decisively rejected the President’s appointee. While the motive behind the assault remains unconfirmed, the incident has raised concerns about rising political tensions in the district.
The identities of the assailants and the exact circumstances surrounding the incident have yet to be established. Local authorities have not issued an official statement on the matter.
The Binduri District Assembly is yet to announce the next steps following the failed confirmation of the DCE nominee.
