The National Service Authority, in collaboration with the Military High Command, is set to roll out a new initiative that will introduce basic military training for all National Service Personnel (NSPs) across the country. This was revealed during a meeting held today between the management of the Authority and senior officials of the Ghana Armed Forces at the Ministry of Defence.
The initiative, known as the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP), is part of a broader plan by the government to promote discipline, patriotism, and physical fitness among Ghanaian graduates. The President of the Republic first outlined this vision during his maiden State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
Director-General of the National Service Authority, Mr. Felix Gyamfi, emphasized the importance of the programme, stating, “The introduction of this military training is a step in the right direction and must be embraced by all and sundry as one of the indicators for resetting the country, particularly the youth.”
Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye, who represented the Military High Command, pledged the full support of the Ghana Armed Forces, affirming their readiness to deliver the needed training and support to the programme.
The military training component is expected to begin on August 3, 2025, and will run for up to two months. It will involve composite basic military drills and orientation designed to prepare service personnel to respond effectively to national emergencies and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The NSERRP marks a significant shift in Ghana’s national service framework and is anticipated to reshape the attitude and capabilities of young graduates serving the nation.
