Nana Addo Ganged Up With Chief Justice to Jail Me” – Dr. Stephen Opuni Speaks Out After 8-Year Ordeal

Former Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni, has made shocking revelations about the legal battles he faced, accusing former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo of attempting to disgrace and imprison him unjustly.

Speaking during a heartfelt thanksgiving service at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Emmanuel Congregation, in Dormaa-Babianeha, Bono Region, Dr. Opuni recounted how his life was turned upside down in January 2017, shortly after his appointment as CEO.

“Over eight years ago, I was accused and wanted to be disgraced by Nana Addo and his Chief Justice. I knew I had done nothing wrong,” he said. “They involved EOCO and the CID, dragging my name through investigations and public scrutiny.”

Dr. Opuni further alleged that a judge from the Court of Appeal was promoted to the Supreme Court specifically to oversee his case and ensure he was convicted. A different judge who insisted on following the proper legal process was suddenly transferred — not even through an official letter, but via text message.

“In all this, I kept my faith in God. They wanted me in prison, but God granted me victory. I am a free man today, not because of any favor, but because of truth and divine justice,” he shared, drawing loud applause from the congregation.

His statements have sparked renewed discussions on judicial independence and political interference in Ghana’s legal system. Dr. Opuni concluded by expressing gratitude to his family, legal team, and all who supported him, emphasizing, “God never sleeps, and justice will always prevail in the end.”
