Government to Engage Transport Operators on Reducing Fares – Deputy Finance Minister

Deputy Finance Minister, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has revealed that the government plans to engage transport operators in the coming weeks to discuss the possibility of reducing transport fares in line with falling fuel prices.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of the Kwahu Business Forum held in Kwahu Mpraeso on Saturday, April 19, Mr. Nyarko stressed that lower transport fares could contribute meaningfully to reducing inflation.

“As a government, we’ve made progress in bringing inflation down, and we expect to see further improvement in the next inflation report,” he said. “Fuel prices are on the decline, and it’s only fair that transport fares reflect this trend. We will be reaching out to transport operators soon to discuss this.”

He emphasized that such adjustments would benefit the broader economy by easing cost pressures on consumers and enhancing national economic stability.

Mr. Nyarko also praised the inclusive nature of the Kwahu Business Forum, pointing out that the participation of key political and business stakeholders, including the Minority Leader, demonstrates the government’s commitment to unity and collaboration for economic development.

“The presence of the Minority Leader and other stakeholders shows that the government is serious about working together with all sectors—public and private—to drive the growth we need as a country,” he added.
