Labour Minister Dispatches First Batch of Ghanaian Youth to South Korea Under Work Abroad Program

Ghana’s Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, has officially dispatched the first cohort of beneficiaries under the Work Abroad Program to South Korea. The program is designed to provide Ghanaian youth with job opportunities in the international shipping industry.

Although the initiative was initiated prior to Dr. Pelpuo’s assumption of office, he played a pivotal role in completing the deployment process, overseeing the acquisition of necessary authorizations, permits, and logistical arrangements to ensure a smooth transition for the participants.

Speaking at the send-off ceremony, Dr. Pelpuo emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all participants throughout their employment abroad. He encouraged the beneficiaries to embrace the opportunity with discipline and dedication, while also considering future investments back in Ghana.

“This is not just a job opportunity—it’s a life-changing experience. Make the most of it, represent Ghana with pride, and think about how you can turn this journey into a foundation for future success, whether through building a home or starting a business,” Dr. Pelpuo advised.

The selected youth, beaming with excitement, expressed profound gratitude to the government and the Ministry for facilitating this life-transforming chance. For many, the deployment marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with hope, financial stability, and professional development.

The Work Abroad Program falls in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s broader vision of youth empowerment, job creation, and strategic international labour partnerships aimed at reducing unemployment and enhancing the livelihoods of young Ghanaians.
