Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has dismissed claims of intimidation following the attempted arrest of Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, operatives of the NIB attempted to arrest Rev Fordjour at his Spintext residence in Accra.
This followed Rev. Fordjour’s claims about two suspicious flights that landed at the Kotoka International Airport, suggesting they were connected to possible drug trafficking and money laundering.
A former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), who described Rev Fordjour as a friend, criticised his actions, stating that what he did was wrong and inappropriate.
“Don’t use the media to talk about the image of your country. If you have concerns, you should trust the Speaker and bring the matter to them, especially when it is of national interest,” she said.
She also questioned Rev Fordjour’s claims, asking, “Who would leave a plane with cocaine on it for five days? It doesn’t make sense.”
She further stated that if Rev. Fordjour had real evidence, he should have gone through proper channels, instead of taking the matter to the media.
“No one is intimidating anybody. He needs to stand firm and go through whatever comes his way. If he hasn’t done anything wrong, the truth will eventually come out,” she said in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.
Madam Jantuah also expressed concern about the timing of these claims, wondering why such accusations of intimidation were not raised during previous governments.
“Who has actually done anything to someone, apart from Fordjour?” she asked.
She noted that Rev Fordjour’s actions had serious implications.
“Now, even if you travel, you’ll be searched like you’ve done something wrong because he has tarnished the country’s image.”
