President John Dramani Mahama, Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, has called on newly commissioned officers to uphold the values of responsibility, integrity, and professionalism as they begin their careers in military service.
He made this charge while addressing the graduating officer cadets at the Ghana Military Academy on Friday, April 11. The graduation ceremony marked the official transition of the cadets into commissioned officers of the Ghana Armed Forces.
In his address, President Mahama reminded the officers of the high expectations the nation has of them and urged them to live up to their duty as future leaders of the military.
“Graduation cadet, today marks the beginning of the beginning of a new chapter in your life. You are no longer officer cadet, you shall soon be officers of the Ghana Armed Forces. The nation looks up to you with expectations, hope and confidence. You are part of the future of the Ghana Armed Forces, your action will shape the destiny of our nation.
“Remember that leadership is not about rank or privilege. Leadership is about responsibility and service. I urge you to live with integrity, courage and compassion. I encourage you to be officers who inspire loyalty. I expect you to be leaders who earn respect and uphold the highest standard of professionalism,” he stated.
The President emphasized that the Ghana Armed Forces is a critical institution in maintaining peace and stability, and as such, those who lead within it must display exemplary conduct and a deep sense of national duty.
The commissioning parade was attended by high-ranking military officials, government representatives, diplomats, and family members of the graduates.
It featured a display of military drills and traditions that marked the cadets’ successful completion of their training.
