Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has made a controversial statement following the GHC10 million defamation lawsuit filed against him by Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide to former President John Mahama.
Speaking on Wuntumi TV, Abronye claimed that he would only be able to settle the legal fees if he received a portion of what he sarcastically referred to as “cocaine money.” His comment follows recent allegations made by Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, who claimed that a suspicious aircraft possibly carrying cocaine had landed at the Kotoka International Airport.
Abronye took a swipe at the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, accusing him of being at the center of the alleged drug trafficking scandal. In a clearly satirical tone, Abronye said:
“Unless Felix Kwakye Ofosu gives me some of the cocaine money, I cannot pay that GHC10 million. Where else will I get it from?”
His remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some criticizing the statement as reckless and unbecoming of a political leader, while others say he was only using satire to highlight what he views as hypocrisy within the current political discourse.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari sued Abronye earlier this year for defamation, following allegations he made during a media appearance. She is seeking a public apology, retraction, and financial compensation for the damage done to her reputation.
As the lawsuit proceeds, Abronye maintains that he is ready to face the legal battle but insists that the real focus should be on the growing concerns about alleged drug-related activities at the airport.
