Respect constitutional process in CJ petition – Nana Yaa Jantuah appeals

Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has urged political parties and the general public to refrain from interfering in the ongoing constitutional process regarding the potential removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

She emphasized the importance of allowing due process to take its course in a fair and transparent manner, without political or public pressure influencing the legal procedures.

Her comments follow reports that the Chief Justice has officially submitted her response to the President and the Council of State ahead of the April 7, 2025, deadline, in relation to three petitions seeking her removal from office.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, April 8, Nana Yaa Jantuah called for calm and maturity in how the issue is discussed publicly.

“I believe that we should let the process go on. I believe that we should reduce our suggestions on what it should be and what is not supposed to be,” she said.

She further highlighted the constitutional provisions governing such high-level removals and encouraged Ghanaians to respect the laid-down procedures.

“Because when you look at the constitution, it is laid out what process you have to go through to remove a Chief Justice or a Speaker of Parliament or EC [Chairpersons].”

She acknowledged that the Chief Justice had fulfilled her part by submitting her written response, and reiterated the need to avoid politicizing the matter as it proceeds.

“She has answered, and I think that the process should start. But I am appealing that when the process starts, we should let it start. We should not be interfering with insults and other ill things. We should let it be free from any public discourse,” she said.
