The Deputy Director of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Twum Barimah, has confirmed that he was personally involved in the inspection of two aircraft suspected of drug trafficking at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
According to him, all required procedures were followed thoroughly, and no drugs or illegal substances were discovered during the checks.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Burning Issues, Barimah stated that he was present when both aircraft landed and supervised the inspection process, which involved the use of NACOC’s trained sniffer dogs. He added that the Ghana Immigration Service also carried out its own checks, which similarly yielded no contraband.
The inspections came under public scrutiny following allegations made by Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour. The MP raised concerns about two specific aircraft: the Air MED flight L823 AM and the Antonov 12B cargo plane. He alleged that the air ambulance, which landed on March 20, 2025, stayed in the country for five days without transporting any patients, suggesting it was being used to smuggle cocaine and cash. He also claimed the Antonov 12B landed on March 12 and remained at KIA for 13 days before departing on March 25.
However, Twum Barimah questioned the MP’s failure to provide concrete evidence to support these claims. He also cast doubt on the visuals shared by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, suggesting that they lacked credibility.
Barimah reiterated that the inspections were conducted professionally and according to standard procedure, with no signs of illegal activity.
Responding to the allegations, Felix Kwakye Ofosu described them as unfounded. In a social media video, he accused Rev. Fordjour of intentionally spreading misinformation to tarnish the image of the government.
He urged Ghanaians to treat the MP’s claims with skepticism unless he can provide verifiable evidence.
As the matter continues to generate public interest, many await whether the Assin South legislator will substantiate his accusations or if they will ultimately be dismissed as speculative.
