Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has refuted claims about the ill-health of Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, affirming that she is recovering well and will soon return to work.
Following a brief illness after carrying out official duties on Friday, March 28, 2025, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang initially received care at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) before traveling abroad for further medical treatment. During this period, false reports emerged alleging her death.
Speaking to Ghanaians in Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday, April 6, Ablakwa assured the public that the Vice President is doing well and expressed gratitude for the support and prayers from Ghanaians both locally and abroad.
“There were concerns about the condition of our mother, Ghana’s first female Vice President. I can confidently say she is recovering well. Your prayers have made a difference,” he stated. “I have spoken with her personally and can confirm her improving condition.”
Ablakwa urged the public to ignore what he called “malicious and unGhanaian propaganda” being spread about her health. He reaffirmed her strength and determination, emphasizing her role as a beacon of hope for women and girls in the country.
“Kindly pay no attention to the harmful and false narratives being circulated. Our Vice President is in good health and will soon resume her responsibilities. She continues to make us proud and serves as a powerful symbol of what women can achieve,” he added.
