Ashanti Regional Police Command probe shooting incident at Adventist SHS

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation following a shooting incident at the Adventist Senior High School, Kumasi, on Friday, April 4, 2025, around 12:00 pm.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 16-year-old second-year student, whose identity is being withheld, brought a locally manufactured pistol loaded with one BB ammunition to the school.

The student reportedly attempted to display the firearm to a classmate when it accidentally discharged, injuring another student. The names of those involved remain confidential.

The injured student received treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is currently in stable condition. Meanwhile, the juvenile suspect has been taken into police custody, and the empty cartridge has been recovered as evidence.

During questioning, the suspect revealed that the firearm was taken from his father’s bedroom without his father’s consent. Authorities are now working to locate and arrest the father to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Godwin Ahianyo, who serves as the Public Affairs Officer for the Ashanti Regional Police, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on April 5, 2025. The police have reassured the public of their commitment to thoroughly investigating the matter.
