The UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC), led by its Executive Director, Madam Adjoba Kyiamah, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, on Thursday, 20th March 2025. The meeting, held at the GFZA Head Office, focused on strengthening trade relations and fostering investment opportunities between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
During the discussions, Madam Kyiamah provided an overview of UKGCC’s mandate and operations. She highlighted that the Chamber, established in 2016 with the support of the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT), has been instrumental in promoting bilateral trade and investment between the UK and Ghana. Through its efforts in Investment Promotion, Business Advocacy, and Capacity Building, the UKGCC has significantly contributed to deepening economic ties between the two nations.
Dr. Mary Awusi, in her remarks, expressed gratitude to the UKGCC for its continuous support and reiterated the GFZA’s commitment to fostering future collaborations. She emphasized the Authority’s plans to attract more investors into Ghana and create an enabling environment for businesses within the Free Zones enclave.
As part of their engagement, both organizations agreed to organize capacity-building sessions for Free Zone Enterprises (FZEs) on key trade-related topics, including Trade Partnership Agreements (TPA), Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations, and UK standardization procedures for cross-border trade.
Madam Kyiamah, in her concluding statement, commended the GFZA for its pivotal role in promoting Ghana as a preferred investment destination for UK businesses. She was accompanied by key UKGCC officials, including Madam Sara-Adelaide, Head of Trade Services, and Madam Worlase Afatsiawo, Head of External Relations.
On the part of the GFZA, the meeting was attended by senior executives, including Mr. Musah Sibri Amidu, Deputy CEO (Finance and Administration); Ms. Anita Quashie, Director of Marketing and Investment Promotion; and Mrs. Patience Agbleze Acorlor, Director of Corporate Affairs and Public Relations.
This engagement underscores the ongoing commitment of both institutions to strengthening Ghana-UK trade relations and creating more opportunities for businesses in both countries.
