‘Dampare’s administration had too many question marks’ – Bright Oduro

The former Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police (Retired) Bright Oduro, has criticised the administration of the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Speaking on The Big Issus on Channel One TV, Bright Oduro expressed deep concerns about the way the Ghana Police Service was managed under Dampare’s leadership.

According to him, previous IGPs had managed the force effectively without attracting widespread criticism or internal discontent.

However, he noted that this changed after Dampare’s appointment, suggesting that many officers did not receive his leadership style within the service.

The retired police commissioner further alleged that despite attempts by well-meaning individuals to advise Dampare on how to improve his leadership approach, the former IGP was not receptive to such counsel.

This, he said, resulted in a growing sense of unease within the police force, ultimately leading to what he described as a period of uncertainty and discontent.

“The successive IGPs were doing very well and there were no complaints about them and we didn’t have so many concerns being expressed by the police officers who were in and who were out until Dampare became the IGP. Initially, he started very well but he decided to tow a certain direction along the line which didn’t go down well with the police service.

“There were people who were trying to advice him but he wouldn’t take and so there were so many question marks about the Dampare administration.”

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare was replaced as IGP by Commissioner of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

Many believe the change in leadership is aimed at addressing the concerns that were raised during Dampare’s tenure and restoring confidence within the ranks of the police service.
