End National Security raids, leave a legacy – Afenyo-Markin to Mahama

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to leave a lasting legacy by putting an end to the raids being conducted by National Security personnel on the homes of former heads of state institutions.

Addressing the press on Thursday, March 20, he strongly condemned what he described as intimidation and attacks under the guise of national security operations.

His remarks follow a raid on the private residence of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison. The operation, carried out by approximately 20 armed men and led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, took place in the early hours of Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

The heavily armed operatives, some wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 rifles, stormed Dr Addison’s Roman Ridge residence in Accra while he was at home. Reports indicate that upon arrival, the National Security team immediately disabled the CCTV system on the property before searching.

In his appeal to the President, Afenyo-Markin urged Mahama to take responsibility and curb what he described as an abuse of executive power.

“President John Dramani Mahama, please leave a legacy. Let it be said that even if there were excesses in the exercise of executive power when you had the opportunity, you changed it for good. Own that legacy in your name. We are tired of the intimidation, the attacks, and the hypocrisy,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Minority Leader further alleged that the operatives who raided Dr Addison’s residence stole valuables, including cash and jewellery, from the household.
