The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has urged continued efforts toward gender equality, acknowledging progress while emphasizing the need for further action.
In a statement marking International Women’s Day on March 8, she congratulated the Commission’s female staff, commending their commitment, resilience, and professionalism in ensuring credible elections.
“Your dedication and hard work played a key role in delivering the peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral results our nation witnessed on December 7, 2024,” she said.
Madam Mensa also recognized Ghana’s strides in gender equality, paying tribute to trailblazing women who paved the way for future generations. However, she noted that barriers still limit the full participation of women and girls in society.
She called on stakeholders to intensify efforts in creating an inclusive society where women and girls have equal opportunities and representation.
“Let’s unite to accelerate progress and work together to build a fair and just society for all,” she urged.
Addressing young women and girls, she encouraged them to remain determined and confident, highlighting their courage, strength, and resilience as a source of inspiration.
She also honored the women who have shaped the Electoral Commission over the past 30 years, reaffirming the EC’s commitment to gender equality.
“To all the women who have made a lasting impact on the Electoral Commission of Ghana over the last 30 years, we celebrate you today and remain committed to advancing gender equality together.”
