Government Imposes Curfew on Walewale and Surrounding Areas

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has imposed a curfew on Walewale and its surrounding areas in the North East Region, following advice from the North East Regional Security Council. The curfew, which takes effect from Saturday, February 15, 2025, will be in force daily from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.

The decision to impose the curfew comes in response to emerging security concerns in the area. While specific details have not been disclosed, the government urges all residents to cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and order.

In a statement issued from Accra, the Minister for the Interior called on Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, and the Youth of Walewale to exercise restraint amidst the ongoing challenges. The government has emphasized the importance of dialogue and non-violent means in addressing disputes to prevent any further escalation of tensions.

Additionally, the government has placed a total ban on the possession and use of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons within Walewale and its environs. Any individual found in violation of this directive will face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.

The Ministry of the Interior assures residents that security agencies will remain vigilant and work tirelessly to ensure peace and stability in the area. Citizens are advised to abide by the curfew regulations and support efforts to restore calm.

The government remains committed to fostering peace and security across the country and urges all stakeholders in Walewale to cooperate in maintaining order.
