The National Service Authority (NSA) has confirmed the full payment of all outstanding allowances owed to National Service Personnel (NSP) across the country, following a swift intervention by President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
At a press conference in Accra, the Acting Director-General of the NSA, Felix Gyamfi, commended the President for prioritizing the welfare of service personnel and ensuring that all backlogs were cleared within just 15 days of assuming office.
Swift Government Intervention
Mr. Gyamfi expressed gratitude to President Mahama for his speedy response, which resulted in the clearance of unpaid allowances from September 2024 to January 2025.
“I want to sincerely commend His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his dedication to the welfare of Ghana’s youth. The speed and efficiency with which he addressed the payment of outstanding allowances in just two weeks is highly commendable,” he stated.
He assured service personnel that delays in allowances would no longer be an issue, as the government had now prioritized timely disbursement.
Breakdown of Payments
Providing details of the disbursement, Mr. Gyamfi announced that all outstanding allowances had been fully settled, covering:
September 2024 (Backlog): 10,712 personnel paid
October 2024 (Backlog): 10,712 personnel paid
November 2024: 98,145 personnel paid
December 2024: 98,145 personnel paid
January 2025: 98,145 personnel paid
He emphasized that service personnel play a crucial role in national development, particularly in education, health, agriculture, and local governance, making it imperative that they receive their allowances on time.
Gov’t Plans for Efficiency
To ensure that delayed payments become a thing of the past, the NSA is introducing a biometric-driven payroll system to improve efficiency, prevent discrepancies, and offer real-time insights into payments. The system will also allow personnel to access electronic payslips and track their payments transparently.
Mr. Gyamfi urged all service personnel to comply with the monthly evaluation calendar to ensure smooth processing of their allowances.
National Service Registration and Accreditation Issues
The NSA boss revealed that 16,289 trained teachers from 36 colleges of education had been issued PIN codes to begin their national service registration.
However, he also noted that 22 institutions lacked accreditation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), affecting 9,769 graduates. He urged these institutions to renew their accreditation by August 31, 2025, to avoid further setbacks.
Expansion of NSA Initiatives
As part of the government’s “Feed Ghana” agenda, the NSA plans to revamp its farm projects, focusing on:
- Animal husbandry
- -Aquaculture
- Poultry farming
- Crop production

Crackdown on Ghost Names and Fraud Prevention
Mr. Gyamfi reaffirmed the NSA’s commitment to eliminating ghost names from its payroll. He assured that investigations were ongoing and that those found guilty would face the full force of the law.
“If you judge me by my demeanor, you might think I would hesitate to take action against those found culpable. But let me assure you that once the state investigative machinery completes its work, anyone implicated will be dealt with—no exemptions, no leniency,” he warned.
To further enhance financial transparency, he announced that all payments to the NSA must now be processed through the Ghana.Gov platform to prevent fraud and ensure accountability.

Mr. Gyamfi assured that under his leadership, the NSA would be transformed into a world-class institution with strategic planning, efficient deployment, agricultural innovation, and financial transparency.
“The NSA is at a turning point, and my leadership is committed to prioritizing and promoting initiatives that matter to personnel, staff, stakeholders, and the nation. We will work tirelessly to strengthen national service,” he concluded.
