Majority caucus not committed to promoting govt business – Effia MP

Member of Parliament (MP) for Effia, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, has accused the Majority Caucus in Parliament of failing to demonstrate commitment to promoting government business.

His remarks follow multiple instances where Speaker Alban Bagbin suspended sittings due to the House’s inability to meet the required quorum for conducting government affairs.

In an exclusive interview with Channel One News, Boamah-Nyarko highlighted the persistent low attendance among the majority of MPs, stating that their inconsistency is hindering the smooth operation of government business.

“The Majority is not doing enough to facilitate government business. Their attendance has not been consistent,” he remarked.

He, however, praised the Minority Caucus for its cooperation, emphasizing that their focus has been on constructive engagement and holding the government accountable.

“They have 183 plus four independent members making 187 and yet they have difficulty in raising 91 members to form a quorum so what is happening?
“They themselves are not promoting and helping government business, but we want to be constructive. We want to make sure that we hold government only accountable and that is the mandate we have a minority,” he stated.
