I’ll not seek re-election as youth organiser – Opare Addo

George Opare Addo, Minister for Youth Development and National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has indicated that he will not seek re-election for his party position in the next NDC executive elections.

Speaking in an interview with Citi Newsroom on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, he revealed his decision to step aside when his current term ends.

He clarified that while there is no legal requirement for him to resign from his party role, he has personally decided not to contest for re-election.

“Election is next year and I will not contest for re-election. So somebody else will take my place. No law has asked me to resign. If the president asks me to resign from the party position, I will. As it stands now I will not be the first national officer will has been appointed to government and still holds a position in the party. If I have to do it I will do it,” he stated.

He also addressed concerns that the recent appointments of several NDC executives to key government positions could weaken the party. So far, seven NDC executives have been appointed to various roles, including Cabinet Ministers, Chief Executive Officers of government institutions, and other positions within the presidency.

Pablo, however, assured party members that the NDC’s unity and strength would remain intact.

He expressed confidence in the party’s ability to fill any gaps created by the movement of executives into government roles.

“There are 38 of us at the party office. So, if four are taken out, the party has a lot of people to fill the gap. We are not gone, we will still support the party one way or the other when we have to.

“So, the party will not be weakened, that I can assure everybody. We still have a lot of human resources who will fill in for us when we are not around,” he stated.
