Let’s embrace patriotism and love for country like Lt. Gen. Quainoo – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to rekindle a spirit of patriotism and draw inspiration from the legacy of the late Lt. Gen. Arnold Quainoo, former Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Speaking at the military leader’s final funeral rites at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Burma Camp on Friday, February 7, Mahama praised Quainoo’s dedication to national service.

The late Lt. Gen. Quainoo was also the first commander of Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG), during the Liberian civil war in 1990, where he played a crucial role in regional peacekeeping efforts.

In his tribute, President Mahama reflected on the exemplary life of Lt. Gen. Quainoo, describing him as a symbol of patriotism and integrity.

“He is the last of his generation that is past who believed in the love of country, they were not given into materialism. They were principled and they did things out of patriotism. It is very different from the generation today. Everything is driven by material wealth. So, as we gather to say farewell to this man, may his life be an inspiration, thus, we can recapture love for country and patriotism,” he stated.
