Sam George, the Minister-designate for Communication, has expressed concerns over the lack of funding for the implementation of Ghana’s Cybersecurity Act, which was passed under the previous administration.
Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, he noted that despite the passage of the Act, the previous government failed to operationalize the necessary funding to support cybersecurity initiatives.
Sam George emphasized the need to strengthen financial support for cybersecurity initiatives, particularly for young Ghanaian enterprises that often struggle with inadequate funding.
He assured the Committee of his commitment to introducing sustainable funding mechanisms to bolster the country’s cybersecurity efforts.
He expressed confidence that under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, these proposals would be fully realized.
Sam George’s commitment to enhancing cybersecurity funding is seen as a critical step toward safeguarding Ghana’s digital infrastructure and supporting innovation within the digital economy.
“I give you the assurance that the brain and thinking behind me introducing the funding for the Bill if you read it, I identified a number of sources to funding Cybersecurity, grants from donor agencies, government grants of allocation and establishment of a cyber fund which will be dedicated for beneficiaries of cybersecurity.
“I share a province that when approved, the thoughts that came to my mind when I introduced this as an amendment in 2022 will see the light of day under President John Dramani Mahama.”
