We’ll ensure Ghanaians are protected against terrorism – Omane Boamah

Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Minister-designate for Defence, has pledged to bolster Ghana’s defence systems to counter the rising threat of terrorism in the West African sub-region.

During his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, Dr. Omane Boamah outlined his vision for enhancing the country’s security infrastructure, with a particular focus on completing Ghana’s Fractional Orbital Bombardment Systems (FOB).

He emphasized the importance of vigilance as terrorism escalates in neighboring countries and across West Africa, stressing that emerging threats demand proactive measures to protect the nation.

While acknowledging the efforts of previous administrations in maintaining Ghana’s peace and stability, he asserted that the current security landscape calls for advanced technologies, such as the FOB, which provide early detection and interception of potential threats, including incursions by terrorist groups.

“The Fractional Orbital Bombardment Systems (FOB) are critical and needed in protecting Ghana. Terrorism has caught up with us and successive governments have done well by curbing it but there are reports that there are some sleepy cells and we need the FOBs to help secure our borders

“We have over 2,000 kilometres of borders and if these fighters are to attack us, we need the FOBs to protect ourselves and so you have my assurances that we will do everything to protect and safeguard our dear nation.”
