General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Koduah, believes that there was a spiritual dimension to the party’s heavy defeat in the December 2024 general elections.
He based his point on the low voter turnout among the party’s members across the country, which he believes was not normal.
In an interview on Ashh FM, the lawyer and politician also stated that some pastors and others who should have stood by the party to pray and support it spiritually pulled back because they were angry.
“I will use this medium to appeal to pastors who intercede for the NPP… This is because a lot of spiritual machinations went on ahead of the 2024 general elections. Things really happened in the spiritual realm; that is what I see and believe. Spiritually, we lost the elections.
“Some pastors who should have stood in the gap and interceded for us, some women of prayer who should have gone on their knees and prayed for us, refused to do so because there was a lot of anger.
“It is not usual. Out of sixteen regions… it is as though the NPP members rang themselves and told each other that they will not go and cast their vote. It just cannot happen like that, that we vote on a Saturday and yet a huge number of party supporters refused to go and vote for the party.”
Ahead of the election, Rev. Owusu Bempah, a prophet known to be a supporter of the NPP who had fallen out with the party, prophesied that the NPP would suffer a heavy defeat in the 2024 general election.
He said he would resort to spiritual machinations to ensure the party loses the elections.
The Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday, December 9, confirmed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, as the winner of the 2024 election with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast. He defeated his primary rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.
The NDC also won a huge majority in parliament, sweeping 183 seats against the NPP’s 88 seats.
NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Koduah has disclosed that the party’s defeat in the December elections was not physical but spiritual, basing his point on the low voter turnout among the party’s members across the country.
