National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Bureau member Shamima Muslim has accused Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin of deliberately overshadowing Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Appointments Committee, in the ongoing vetting process.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, January 18, Shamima claimed Afenyo-Markin’s dominant role is reshaping the proceedings to suit his agenda.
“It’s becoming clear that Afenyo-Markin is intentionally positioning himself as a co-chair, overshadowing the chairman. This trend could undermine the integrity of the process,” she said.
She also noted that Ahiafor is facing backlash, even from within his party, for granting Afenyo-Markin too much leeway. Shamima warned that such actions risk derailing the vetting process, drawing comparisons to the conduct of Joe Osei-Owusu during the NPP administration.
“The NPP often preaches reforms in opposition but abandons these ideals when in power,” she added, urging a return to fairness and balance in committee proceedings.
