H.E John Mahama renews curfew hours in Bawku

President John Dramani Mahama, through an Executive Instrument, has renewed the curfew hours imposed on the Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region.

The new curfew hours, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. take effect on Monday, January 13, 2025, replacing the previous dawn-to-dusk curfew.

Additionally, there is a total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons in the Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas. A statement issued by the Ministry of Interior emphasized that individuals found with such items will face arrest and prosecution.

The government has appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to exercise restraint amidst the ongoing challenges.

It also urged the people of Bawku to employ non-violent methods to work towards restoring peace in the area.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to meet the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Sunday, January 19, to address the escalating tensions in Bawku and Walewale.
