Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has expressed concerns about the appointment of Dr. Callistus Mahama as the Executive Secretary to the President, raising questions about the lack of communication with Parliament regarding the decision.
Dr. Callistus Mahama was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama on January 6, 2025, with his appointment officially taking effect on January 7, 2025.
However, during his opening remarks at the vetting, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister-designate for Finance on January 13, 2025, Afenyo-Markin highlighted the absence of official notification to Parliament about the appointment.
“Secretary to the President, Parliament is not even aware of your appointment. Because under normal circumstances, the President is even supposed to communicate to Parliament. It’s part of the imperatives of governance that he communicates to Parliament,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
He also emphasized the importance of completing the formation of the President’s cabinet to ensure the smooth operation of government, urging President Mahama to prioritise this process
