The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has urged new Members of Parliament (MPs) to dedicate themselves to addressing the pressing needs of their constituents and Ghana.
Speaker Bagbin stated that MPs must honour the sacrifices made by their constituents, who have entrusted them with the responsibility to represent their interests in Parliament.
Speaking at an orientation session organised for first-time MPs, the Speaker said lawmakers bear a significant duty to secure the future of the people they serve, many of whom he says may have devoted their lives to supporting their representatives’ political journeys.
“You are a role model. The lives of so many people depend on you. Don’t fail them. This is what touches my heart. As you go around you recollect how people are fighting for you, not just during the elections, but even today in the villages, defending you with their lives. And you are here taking it easy and toying with their future.
“It is not fair at all and the Almighty God himself will not bless you. Because you don’t need that blessing. And it is true. Whatever you sow, you reap it. So don’t think that you do good for any other person. You do it for yourself.”
