The Size of Your Caucus Looks Like My District Assembly- Hon. Agbodza tells Afenyo Markins

It was another heated day in Parliament, and Hon. Afenyo Markins, the Minority Leader, had confidently referred to the opposing side as the “so-called majority.” The remark was meant to be a jab, but Hon. Kwame Agbodza was quick to fire back with a retort that left the chamber in stitches.

Rising to his feet with a dramatic flourish, Hon. Agbodza adjusted his glasses and quipped, “Mr. Speaker, I have heard our Minority Leader refer to us as the ‘so-called majority.’ But looking at the size of his caucus, I can’t help but think it resembles my district assembly—small, divided, and struggling to form a quorum!”

The chamber erupted in laughter, with MPs from the majority side pounding their tables in approval. Afenyo Markins, taken aback but clearly amused, tried to respond, but  Agbodza wasn’t done.

“Mr. Speaker,” he continued, “perhaps our honorable colleague is confusing strength with noise. In this House, numbers don’t lie. So while they may be loud, we remain the legitimate majority—so-called or not!”

Afenyo Markins could only shake his head, smiling ruefully as his colleagues laughed at his expense. The exchange, though biting, was a testament to the sharp wit and banter that makes Ghanaian parliamentary politics a spectacle to behold.
