Ghana’s new President, John Dramani Mahama, has praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his prompt concession of defeat.
After the 2024 general elections, Bawumia conceded defeat on December 8 and extended his congratulations to Mahama.
In a statement to the nation on December 8, Bawumia revealed that he had called then NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to personally offer his congratulations.
In his inaugural address following his swearing-in at Independence Square in Accra on January 7, Mahama wished Bawumia all the best in his future endeavours.
“I extend my warmest wishes to H.E. former Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, it was a gruelling campaign. And we gave it our all.
“Your sportsmanship in making an early concession eased tensions and contributed to the early conclusion of the electoral contest. I wish you all the best in your endeavours.”
