President-Elect Mahama Endorses Rt. Hon. A.S.K. Bagbin for Speaker of 9th Parliament

The President-elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has officially mandated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Leadership to nominate The Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic. This decision follows consultations with the National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership of the NDC.

Rt. Hon. Bagbin, a seasoned politician and statesman, has had a distinguished career in Ghana’s Parliament. Representing the people of Nadowli in Parliament for several decades, he has previously served as both Minority and Majority Leader, demonstrating exceptional leadership across the political divide. Most notably, he held the esteemed position of Speaker of the 8th Parliament, where his experience and impartiality earned widespread respect.

President-elect Mahama emphasized that Rt. Hon. Bagbin’s nomination is a strategic move to bolster the legislative arm of government. His proven track record, coupled with his deep understanding of parliamentary procedures, makes him uniquely suited to navigate the complexities of the current political landscape.

“In these crucial times for Ghana’s democratic journey, Parliament needs a leader who is experienced, decisive, and committed to fostering bipartisan collaboration. Rt. Hon. Bagbin’s stewardship will undoubtedly strengthen Parliament’s oversight role and contribute meaningfully to our nation’s progress,” the President-elect stated.

The National Democratic Congress believes that Rt. Hon. Bagbin’s expertise will play a pivotal role in steering Ghana’s Parliament toward achieving its legislative and governance objectives during the 9th Parliament.
