NDC will reclaim all contested constituency parliamentary seats – Tanko-Computer

The Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer has said the NDC will continue to pursue all remaining legal disputes over parliamentary seats following a Supreme Court ruling that quashed a high court order for the Electoral Commission to collate four parliamentary results without a hearing from the NDC.

Speaking to the media on Friday, [December 27, 2024] after the Supreme Court ruling, Tanko-Computer said it was a victory for democracy and indicated the NDC’s commitment to securing justice in three other unresolved cases.

“We have taken four today. And then we are going to take the other three too, because we’ll follow them till casket. We are not going to leave it,” he said.

The Supreme Court’s unanimous decision quashed an earlier High Court order that directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to collate and declare results for four constituencies: Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North.

The apex court found that the High Court did not to hear the NDC parliamentary candidates in the affected constituencies before issuing its directive, thereby violating principles of natural justice.

The Supreme Court indicated that the results for the four constituencies had already been collated and declared by the EC, rendering the High Court’s order unnecessary and procedurally flawed.

Tanko-Computer hailed the ruling as a correction of what he called a “travesty of justice” by the High Court, which he argued had set a dangerous precedent.

“This lawless EC must be purged. They defied Supreme Court orders and attempted to impose illegality. Today, democracy has won, and they have egg on their faces,” he stated.

The NDC intends to return to the High Court to argue its case in the remaining three disputed constituencies. Confident of favourable outcomes, he said.

“We told our people to stay calm and trust the legal process. Justice is on our side. We will not leave this fight until every last seat is restored,” he added.
