Ablakwa alleges Akufo-Addo allocated public lands to family members for private businesses

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of allocating public lands to his daughter and niece for their private businesses.

In a Facebook post, dated December 23, 2024, Ablakwa presented documents from the Lands Commission indicating that Edwina Akufo-Addo and Adeline Akufo-Addo Kufuor occupy prime lands in Cantonments, Accra.

According to Ablakwa, Edwina Akufo-Addo operates the Nsuomnam Restaurant, while Adeline Akufo-Addo Kufuor runs The Lotte, a luxury fashion outlet, on these state-owned lands.

He emphasized that these properties were acquired under the Hausa Reserve in 1894 and remain public assets, questioning the legitimacy of their current private use.

Ablakwa further highlighted inconsistencies in the Lands Commission’s records, noting that two certificates issued in 2024 for the Nsuomnam property contained conflicting information. One certificate identified the land as state-owned with no registered developments, while the other referenced a lease to a private individual. He expressed concern over the transparency of these transactions and called for an immediate investigation into what he described as “questionable” land dealings.

The MP urged President Akufo-Addo and the Lands Commission to clarify the situation and supported President-elect John Mahama’s commitment to addressing state capture and reviewing such land allocations.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources had previously refuted similar allegations made by Ablakwa, asserting that Ghana’s public lands are safe, intact, and secure.
