The Deputy Director of Research at the Electoral Commission (EC), Fred Tetteh, has attributed the circumstances that led to the re-collation of some parliamentary results to widespread lawlessness from political parties and their supporters.
According to him, the commission was unable to complete its work in these constituencies due to disruptions caused by these incidents.
The affected constituencies included Nsawam Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, Techiman South, and Dome Kwabenya.
Speaking on the “Big Issues” programme on Channel One TV on Saturday, December 21, 2024, Fred Tetteh expressed concern over the incidents that marred the electoral process in these areas.
He emphasized the need for stricter adherence to electoral laws and called on political parties to ensure discipline among their supporters to prevent future disruptions during elections.
“When you look at what is happening and what has happened, specifically, in those 12 constituencies, it is just an issue of lawlessness, rampaging, besieging and preventing our people from going on their work. Supporters, candidates and what have you, came in to disrupt the process, which has led to this situation,” he stated.
