John Mahama Urges President Akufo-Addo and Security Services to Act Decisively Against Lawlessness

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the nation’s security services to take swift and decisive measures to address the surge in lawlessness reported across the country.

Speaking from his residence on Tuesday evening, Mr. Mahama emphasized the urgency of maintaining order during the transition period, urging the current administration to act with authority to curb these acts of disorder.

“State power remains in the hands of the current administration, and I implore the President and the security agencies to act decisively to curb the ongoing acts of lawlessness immediately,” he stated.

His remarks follow reports of attacks on state offices and public installations, incidents that have raised concerns about potential threats to the nation’s democratic stability.

Mr. Mahama condemned the attacks unequivocally, highlighting the risk of a perceived power vacuum during transitions. “I have received reports of attacks on state offices and installations. While the identities of the perpetrators remain unclear, I condemn these acts in no uncertain terms. They must cease immediately,” he declared.

The President-elect also appealed to the youth, urging restraint and responsible action in the face of discontent or frustration. “As I said during my post-declaration speech, I urge the youth not to vent their frustration through criminal activity. Instead, let us channel our energy into the positive enterprise of rebuilding our beloved nation.”

Mr. Mahama further called for calm and unity, emphasizing that this is a crucial moment for collective efforts to restore Ghana’s strength and integrity. “We have fought hard for change, and now is the time to demonstrate our commitment to rebuilding the Ghana we want through unity and understanding,” he added.

His appeal comes as the nation looks forward to a smooth transition of power and a renewed focus on strengthening democratic governance.
