Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) clashed in the Offinso North Constituency over the distribution of fertilizers in Akomadan.
Reports indicate that Fred Gyei Asamoah, the NPP’s newly-elected Member of Parliament for the constituency, had promised to distribute fertilizers to local farmers following the elections.
The fertilizers were brought to the area before the polls to be shared with constituents after the election results were finalized.
On Monday at around 8 a.m., a group of NDC supporters gathered at Akomadan Cocoa Shell, demanding that the NPP party executives hand over the fertilizers.
They argued that the fertilizers were meant for the farmers and should not be distributed along party lines.
The disagreement escalated into violence, leading to the tragic death of one person, who is suspected to be an NDC supporter. Authorities are investigating the incident as tensions continue to rise in the constituency.
