Channel your anger into rebuilding our nation – Mahama to NDC members vandalising property

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has called on members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from acts of vandalism following his victory in the 2024 general elections.

This comes on the back of multiple reports of party members besieging EC offices and some state agencies to destroy property since he was provisionally pronounced winner of the just-ended polls.

Speaking during his victory speech at his campaign office, John Mahama addressed reports of damage to government property by some party supporters.

“There have been reports of acts of vandalism at some government facilities and installations. I urge you not to vent your frustration in a criminal enterprise,” Mr Mahama cautioned.

He urged party members to redirect their energy and emotions towards productive efforts, emphasising the importance of unity in rebuilding the nation.

“We must channel our anger and frustration into the positive enterprise of resetting and rebuilding our nation,” he said.

The president-elect also advised his supporters to keep celebrations brief, highlighting the immense responsibility that lies ahead.

“Let us be brief in our celebration, for the weight of office will be an onerous one. Expectations of Ghanaians are very high, and we cannot afford to fail them,” he added.

Mahama commended the resilience of NDC supporters, attributing his victory to their belief in the possibility of change.

“Let us maintain and even magnify this joy and positivity that we feel. We have arrived at this moment because so many of you believed that change was possible. Now we know that not only is change possible, but it is also already in process,” he remarked.

The Electoral Commission declared Mahama the winner with 56.55% of the vote, defeating his rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party, who secured 41.61%.
