Joyce Bawah Mogtari, spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the government for celebrating the International Monetary Fund (IMF) report, which indicated that the performance of the Ghanaian economy under the IMF program was generally satisfactory.
She explained that a generally satisfactory performance means just that, without any meaningful change, it remains lackluster, uninspiring, and nothing more.
To that end, she said, the government’s reaction smacked of a failed administration that celebrates mediocrity.
It is recalled that following the IMF report, Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam said at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, December 3, “The economy is recovering strongly and faster, and structural reforms including those on Public Financial Management, Financial Sector, Revenue optimization, expenditure rationalization, social protection, and exchange rate management, have been firmly instituted.”
Reacting to comments on her X page, Joyce Bawah Mogtari said, “They vowed never to go to the IMF and World Bank because they claimed to be better managers of the economy. Today, they are here writing long treatises telling you that the IMF says the performance of the Ghanaian economy under the IMF program is generally satisfactory. Since when did ‘generally satisfactory’ connote or even depict a good or healthy economy?
“To my mind and to most students of economics, a generally satisfactory performance means just that—in the absence of any meaningful change, it remains lackluster, uninspiring, and nothing else. This is a celebration of mediocrity and outright failure.
“This Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government is totally useless and has absolutely nothing to offer. Don’t let them hoodwink you once again.”
