The economic hardships facing Ghanaians today could worsen if Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia is elected as president, according to growing concerns about his economic management. Dr. Bawumia, who has headed the economic management team for the past few years, has overseen a period of significant economic decline. Under his leadership, the cedi has become the worst-performing currency in the world, continuously depreciating against the dollar, and the cost of living has risen sharply.
Prices of everyday goods and services are skyrocketing. The cedi’s free fall is contributing to the daily struggles of the average Ghanaian, with fuel prices soaring to unprecedented heights—currently standing at 14 cedis per liter, while a gallon of oil is priced at 1,000 cedis. Basic necessities like a 25kg bag of rice have now reached 600 cedis. For many, December, traditionally a time for celebration, holds no promise of relief from the spiraling costs of living.
Despite introducing the controversial e-levy and betting tax as part of his policies, Dr. Bawumia is now promising to cancel them if elected. His failure to condemn these initiatives in the past raises doubts about his sincerity and ability to follow through on his promises. Ghanaians are skeptical, especially after witnessing numerous unfulfilled promises made by the vice president during his tenure.
As Ghanaians face these economic challenges, many are questioning the direction the country is headed. While some may hope for a change in leadership, others are turning to the track record of former President John Dramani Mahama as a more reliable option. Mahama, who was in charge before the cedi’s decline, is seen by many as the better alternative to steer the country away from an economic collapse.
With experience and a history of economic stability, Mahama is positioned as the leader who can restore hope to Ghanaians and guide the country back toward prosperity.
As the future of Ghana remains uncertain under the current leadership, it is time for voters to consider their options carefully. For many, John Dramani Mahama represents the path to a brighter, more stable future for all Ghanaians.
I therefore urge all Ghanaians to vote for John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections to secure a prosperous future for our nation.
