Don’t show up if Parliament is recalled – Mahama tells Minority MPs

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has instructed the Minority caucus in Parliament to oppose any attempt by the Majority group to recall the House before the December 7 general elections.

The Majority caucus recently petitioned Speaker Alban Bagbin to urgently reconvene Parliament, citing the need to address critical government matters following the indefinite adjournment of the House on November 7.

In their November 22 recall request, the Majority suggested November 28 and 29, 2024, as possible dates for reconvening.

However, speaking to NDC supporters in Ellembelle in the Western Region, Mr. Mahama made it clear that the Minority caucus would not return to the House until after the elections.

He emphasised that the party’s focus remains on ensuring victory in the upcoming polls rather than participating in parliamentary proceedings before the elections.

“Vote for Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah as the Member of Parliament of Ellembele, and if anyone claims that we are not the Majority, let them wait and see the result on [December 7] election day. That is when they will realise that the NDC is the true Majority group.

“We have seen their [the New Patriotic Paarty’s] letter requesting a recall of Parliament asking us to stop campaigning and go to the House. Let them go if they want, but we will not be going. We will continue our campaign. So NDC MPs, don’t go.”
