Court Order, Attempts to Seize Car: Randy Abbey gives background to invasion of Metro TV

Renowned broadcaster, Dr. Randy Abbey, has given more details on the invasion of Metro TV by a group of armed men, including police officers, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

According to him, the group invaded the premises of the media house, trying to get into the studio where his Good Morning Ghana programme was being broadcast live.

He indicated that before Wednesday’s incident, he was stopped by a group of personnel from the Ghana Police Service who said they were there to enforce a court order.

He said that the police, who were waiting for him at the premises of Metro TV, also wanted to seize his vehicle, but he did not allow them to.

“Immediately I entered, then the pickup just came in and blocked me. And then they got out and said they are here to enforce the court order, so they are seizing my car. I said ‘Seizing my car for what? Court order against me?’ They said they have a court order against Metro TV. Then I said ‘This car is not for Metro TV. So, what do you mean?’ They said ‘Well, they have a court order.’

“I was on my way to start Good Morning Ghana, to come and host my show. So, apparently, they are waiting for me. If you have a legitimate court order and what you are doing is legitimate business, come and execute your order. Why are you looking for me? Why do you come and block my car? Why do you want to take my vehicle? Am I Metro TV? Am I a shareholder? Am I a director?” Dr. Abbey fumed in a viral video from the incident.

The broadcaster also indicated that the people left only to return on Wednesday to try and force themselves into the studio where his programme was being broadcast.

“And then you come here today, and all you want to do is to come and break into Good Morning Ghana when we are having a live programme. Which court gave you that thing? Which court asked you to do that? Which court authorised you to do that? And you have armed policemen following them to do this foolishness? What kind of impunity is this?” he said.

In the video of Wednesday’s invasion, cited by GhanaWeb, Dr. Randy Abbey is seen questioning the authority of the police and the alleged armed men in attempting to enter the studio.

“Which court gave you that authority?” a furious Dr. Randy Abbey is seen questioning a uniformed police officer.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service, as of the time of this publication, had not issued a statement or reacted to the incident.
