Kumasi-Based Radio Presenter Summoned by Police Over Alleged False News

The Ghana Police Service has invited Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a radio and television presenter based in Kumasi, to assist with investigations into claims of disseminating false information about the upcoming December 7 general elections.

The invitation follows a viral video circulating on social media that has raised concerns among law enforcement and the public. The video allegedly shows Oheneba Nana Asiedu, while on air at Wontumi FM in Kumasi, making statements suggesting that voters should cast ballots for presidential candidates on different days during the elections.

Describing the remarks as false and misleading, the police highlighted their potential to disrupt public peace. A statement from the Ghana Police Service underscored the risks of misinformation, particularly in the politically sensitive period ahead of the elections.

The presenter has been directed to report to the Ashanti Regional Police Command in Kumasi to provide information and cooperate fully with the investigation.

The police also issued a caution to the public, especially media practitioners, about the critical need to verify information before dissemination, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public peace during the election season.

POLICE INVITE OHENEBA NANA ASIEDU IN CONNECTION WITH FALSE NEWS PUBLICATION

The Ghana Police Service has invited Kumasi-based radio and TV presenter Oheneba Nana Asiedu to assist in an investigation into the publication of false news.

The inquiry stems from a video circulating on social media, where the presenter is seen at Wontumi FM in Kumasi, urging the public to vote for presidential candidates on separate days during the December 2024 general elections. The statement is factually incorrect and likely to disturb public peace.

The presenter is expected to report to the Ashanti Regional Police Command in Kumasi to aid the investigation.

The police urge the public, particularly media professionals, to exercise responsibility and avoid sharing false news that could disrupt public order before, during, and after the upcoming elections.
