No NDC MP should step foot in parliament if… – Asiedu Nketia

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has directed the party’s Members of Parliament to boycott any emergency parliamentary recall, accusing such sessions of serving corrupt interests.

Addressing supporters in the Western Region on Saturday, November 16, Asiedu Nketia claimed that with the 2024 general elections approaching, the majority caucus lacks legitimate reasons for reconvening Parliament and is instead pursuing questionable objectives.

“Let no NDC MP step foot in Parliament. If they like, they can go and burn the sea. There’s no work in Parliament that can be described as an emergency. This is just an avenue for them to continue the rampant corruption they’ve engaged in for the past eight years,” he said.

“They want to push their corrupt agenda with just three weeks to go. We won’t engage them today or tomorrow. The judges can say whatever they want, but Parliament has its own rules, and we will abide by those,” he added.

Asiedu Nketia’s remarks follow a Supreme Court ruling on Tuesday, November 12, which overturned Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant.

The ruling favored Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s challenge, with five justices asserting that a seat can only be declared vacant if a legislator crosses to another political party while retaining their parliamentary role.
