NDC Reaffirms Respect for Statesmen, Cautions Against Fake News Amidst Retraction and Apology by Party Member

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has addressed recent controversy surrounding comments made by one of its members, Comrade Dela Edem, directed at former President and elder statesman, H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor. The party has described the remarks as “unsavoury and distasteful,” emphasizing its commitment to respecting senior statesmen and the elderly in society.

In a statement signed by its National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC acknowledged Comrade Dela Edem’s retraction and unqualified apology to the former President. The party commended this step, expressing hope that it would bring closure to the matter.

“The NDC as a party accords utmost respect to the elderly in our society and honour to our statesmen,” the statement read, underscoring the party’s values.

Additionally, the NDC called on its members and communicators to stay focused on advocating for the transformative policies of H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the party’s vision ahead of the December 7th, 2024 elections.

The party also took the opportunity to caution the media and the general public against the growing menace of fake news. It alleged that operatives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have intensified efforts to spread malicious misinformation to mislead Ghanaians as the election date approaches.

The NDC urged media houses to remain vigilant and to expose individuals behind such activities, some of whom, it claims, include known NPP communicators and Presidential Staffers. “These unscrupulous operatives must be called out and made to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement concluded.

This development underscores the NDC’s resolve to uphold decorum in public discourse and maintain focus on the issues that matter most to Ghanaians as the country heads toward a crucial election.
