Voter Statistics to Be Ready by Monday; EC Not Obligated to Provide Data to Political Parties

The Electoral Commission’s (EC) Deputy Chairman for Corporate Services, Dr. Bossman Asare, has assured the public and political parties that comprehensive summaries of the Voters Register will be available by Monday, November 11, despite no legal requirement to do so.

Dr. Asare mentioned that EC technicians are working diligently to compile these summaries, which will soon be accessible to the public.

He clarified that while the EC is not legally mandated to supply detailed data to political parties, all statistics relevant to the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections can be accessed through the certified register already shared with political parties.

Political parties, including the National Democratic Congress, have requested detailed voter breakdowns—such as total registered voters, transferred votes, constituency and regional voter populations, proxy lists, and other specifics—to verify the register’s credibility.

Dr. Asare emphasized that the necessary information is contained within the registers already provided to the parties, stating, “The Commission has taken the initiative to ensure all data is available not only at the national level but also regionally. We committed to delivering this information, although some details were initially uncompiled. Importantly, the EC has fulfilled its legal duty by supplying a certified register to political parties, as stipulated by law, which was completed yesterday,” he shared with Emefa Apawu on Joy News’ *Top Story* on Thursday.

He also explained that Regulation 27 of C.I. 91 mandates the EC to provide the certified register to political parties and relevant stakeholders within 21 days, which has been done.

“This fulfills the EC’s obligations. Political parties are responsible for reviewing the document provided, which includes regional figures and enables them to calculate the national total. Nonetheless, the EC is committed to simplifying this process by providing national and regional summaries, which are currently being audited,” he added.

Meanwhile, the EC has reaffirmed the Voters Register’s integrity and encouraged the public to support the Commission’s efforts to ensure a free, fair, transparent, and credible election on December 7, 2024.
