In a recent public statement, Bono Regional NPP Chairman Kwame Baffoe, known as Abronye DC, issued a stark warning to NDC supporters, referencing the 2020 election-related violence in Techiman South. Addressing NPP Supporters and Sympathizers in their campaign rally, he emphasized that NDC supporters in constituencies such as Banda, Tain, and Wenchi, shouldn’t try coming to coalition centers if they really do want to witness what happened to their fellow party faithfuls who lost their lives in Techiman south to happen to in this year’s election, stating emphatically that similar events could unfold if NDC supporters “dare try” the NPP.
Abronye’s comments have sparked widespread concern, evoking memories of the 2020 Techiman South election, where tensions escalated into violence, resulting in fatalities and serious injuries.
The NDC has called Abronye’s statements inflammatory and irresponsible, emphasizing that, they won’t sit aloof to be bullied so if Civil society organizations, the national security, Ghana police service and political observers do not intervene then the peace of this country sits on a thin sheet.
This reckless statement by the Bono NPP chairman, has heightened tensions and could potentially lead to civil unrest and political instability should the NDC also begin to counter and make plans to resist oppressions from the NPP.
