John Dramani Mahama, the former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2024 election, has publicly questioned Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, on economic issues.
During a tour of the Northern Region, Mahama criticized Bawumia for moving his focus from economic discussions to digital initiatives. He suggested that this shift shows a neglect of critical economic issues. Mahama recalled how Bawumia previously posed 170 questions to then-Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, demanding answers to key economic challenges.
Mahama has now raised similar questions for Bawumia:
1. Why is the exchange rate at 17 cedis per dollar?
2. Why has Ghana’s debt increased from 120 billion to 767 billion cedis in eight years?
3. Why did inflation reach 54 percent under your administration?
4. Why did you borrow 42 billion cedis from the Bank of Ghana?
