Former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama met with twenty-four members of the diplomatic corps in Accra on Thursday, in a gathering hosted by U.S. Ambassador Virginia Palmer. The meeting allowed the leadership of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) to convey concerns regarding issues facing Ghana, including challenges within the electoral process, rising incidents of corruption, and what Mahama described as a troubling trajectory for Ghana’s democracy.
Accompanied by NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, and Director of Elections and IT Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Mahama emphasized the importance of free, fair, and transparent elections as crucial pillars for Ghana’s development. In this open dialogue, the NDC leadership presented their vision for a prosperous and more equitable Ghana, sharing the party’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and upholding rule of law.
Mahama expressed appreciation for the diplomatic community’s engagement and commitment to supporting Ghana’s democratic journey. He underscored the value of their insights, describing them as vital contributions as Ghana works to uphold its democratic principles and foster development.
“I am encouraged by the diplomatic community’s interest in Ghana and their dedication to supporting our democratic and developmental journey,” Mahama shared.
